On this day in 1979…

Joy Division released what many consider to be a pioneering post-punk album

Unknown Pleasure was recorded in just 17 days at Strawberry Studios. Producer Martian Hannett used many bizarre production tactics to create the atmospheric sound on Unknown Pleasures. Including the sound of someone eating chips, toilets flushing and noises from the very old elevator inside of Strawberry Studios.

Although Joy Division never officially released any singles from the record, Unknown Pleasure has gone on to critical and cult success.
