Labour Day Weekend Deadliest In Ontario In 20 Years

Distracted driving a huge issue despite warnings

OPP shaking their heads…wondering what more they can do. Labour Day weekend was the deadliest in OPP-patrolled areas in 20 years. There were 12 road deaths, another on the water and one off-road vehicle death. And despite warnings of a crackdown, nearly 800 distracted driving charges were laid, bringing the total for the year to more than 8,800. Speeding was a bigger issue for Southern Georgian Bay OPP, more than 150 drivers in that region were tagged for going too fast.
