County Highlights Immigration Partnership Successes On Multiculturalism Day
Program In Place Since 2012 Helping Newcomers Feel Welcome
The County of Simcoe marked Multiculturalism Day today by bringing folks up to speed on the Local Immigration Partnership. It’s an initiative, started in 2012, designed to identify ways of making it easier for immigrants to get comfortable in the area, because as Simcoe County Warden Jerry Marshall says, it’s a long term investment. He says newcomers to our area help create jobs and opportunities like any other resident. Since its creation, the Partnership has identified a few priorities and helped with policy planning that governs service delivery, and access to culturally appropriate health care and education, along with the expansion of English as a Second Language programming. Over 51,000 immigrants use their 107 languages to call Simcoe County home.
