Balanced Budget At Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital Comes At A Cost

Beds will be closed; jobs

Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital in Orillia has overcome a multi-million dollar budget shortfall to maintain a balanced budget this fiscal year. Howver, to do it, 16 beds will be closed and the equivalent of 35 full time jobs will be lost. “We regret making changes that impact people’s jobs but as a result of today’s announcement, we can begin the process of mitigating those impacts through offers of early retirement and exploring the potential for internal transfers or filling current vacancies,” said Pat Campbell, OSMH President and CEO.  On the upside, a bed restructuring plan will see the establishment of a newly designed program to enhance care for patients requiring post-acute rehabilitation services and medical care.
