Back to School

Back to Routine

It’s that time of year!  First day back to school.  At least if your last name begins somewhere between the letter A and G.  Most kids will be back to start the school year this week.  Most people have memories good and bad about their school days, but there was always something special about going back to school after a long summer of just hanging out, especially after this one.  The smells in the hallway and class rooms.  Seeing old friends.  Starting your new classes.  This year though will be even more memorable as kids will long remember the strangeness of returning back to school during a pandemic.

Each kid reacts to it differently.  Some kids had their back-to-school clothes all neatly laid out the night before and are ready to go first thing in the morning, other kids don’t want to go back so  much, they are thinking of staging a hunger strike in protest.

Parents too.   Some parents send their kids back to school with a tear in their eyes as they’ll miss the kids being around the house.  Other parents are throwing flowers up to the school bus driver when they open the school bus doors to take their kids away.

The other reality that occurs today is the suddenly noticeable increase in the city’s traffic flow.  All of a sudden you’ll notice there are a lot more cars, buses and pedestrians all making their way to and from the different schools in town.  So please take it easy out on the roads on your way to and from work over the coming days.  Pack some patience and in a few days, the increased traffic will just feel like the new normal once again, and hopefully we can keep the kids in school and hold the pandemic back.  Time will tell.
