Province Interfered With Teachers’ Rights Says Superior Court Judge
2012 Teachers Contract Infringed On Constitutional Rights
An Ontario judge has found the province “substantially interfered” with teachers’ bargaining rights. Back in 2012, the Liberal government imposed contracts on teachers that froze some wages, and limited strike ability. Claims these contracts violated constitutional rights were affirmed today, when the Ontario Superior Court Judge issued his decision today, saying “the actions of Ontario substantially interfered with meaningful collective bargaining.” Premier Kathleen Wynne says the contracts imposed on teachers was “very problematic.”
