May The 4th Be With You This Star Wars Day

Today was a great day to be a fan!

May the fourth is here, which means Star Wars fans worldwide will be celebrating all day long. While the phrase “May The Fourth Be With You” has been around for many years (the first instance was in a British newspaper in 1979), the first official event wasn’t until 2011. And it was celebrated in Toronto!

From the Star Wars Day Wikipedia page:

In 2011, the first organized celebration of Star Wars Day took place in Toronto, Ontario, Canada at the Toronto Underground Cinema. Produced by Sean Ward and Alice Quinn, festivities included an Original Trilogy Trivia Game Show; a costume contest with celebrity judges; and the web’s best tribute films, mash-ups, parodies, and remixes on the big screen. The second annual edition took place on Friday, May 4, 2012

13 years later, the celebrations are still going strong!

Events Happening In Barrie

Calling all X-Wing pilots! The Tabletop Forge, Barrie’s premiere gaming venue, is hosting a tournament on May the 4th (Saturday) starting at 12 PM.

Even if X-Wings aren’t your thing, celebrate the day at Barrie ComiCon, also happening on May the 4th. While the convention covers more than just Star Wars, you’re sure to find vendors and fans dedicated to the franchise.

Episode I: The Phantom Menace will also be rereleasing to theaters on May 3rd, just in time for Saturday’s celebrations.
