A Canadian Flag that was autographed by Gord Downie, The Tragically Hip and around 50 other artists who had performed at various Big Music Festivals over the years netted close to $7,000 leading up to Canada Day weekend and all proceeds from the E-Bay auction will go directly to Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto.
The auction of the flag was the idea of Mirium Higgins, the wife of Big Music Fest concert promoter Mark Higgins.
Mirium had collected the bands autographs on the 31″ by 72″ flag, signed by, among others, The Tragically Hip, Blue Rodeo (Jim Cuddy), Sarah Harmer, Sam Roberts Band, Arkells and even a few American bands, including the Counting Crows and Collective Soul.
The timing of the auction leading up to the 9 days prior to Canada Day was that Canada Day was one of Gord’s favorite holidays and close to 70 people bid on the flag with the final number coming in at $6,700. The cheque for the Gord Downie Brain Cancer Fund will be issued today.
