Who is HSC?
HSC is a not-for-profit charitable organization that raises funds and supports individuals and
families facing Huntington disease (HD).
Our vision is a world free from Huntington disease. Our mission is to improve the quality of life for those affected by Huntington disease.
Established in 1973, by Ralph and Ariel Walker, HSC is a national and global leader in
recognizing the needs of those affected by HD. The Society offers help to Canadians affected by
HD through service programs that give support to individuals and families, and hope, by funding cutting edge, internationally recognized, Huntington disease research. Without volunteers like those in our Toronto Chapter, what we do would not be possible.
Let us introduce you to HD.
HD is a genetic brain disorder with physical, mental and emotional symptoms. It is often
described as having ALS, Parkinson’s, schizophrenia and Alzheimer’s, all at the same time. There is no known cure.
One in every 7,000 Canadians has HD and approximately one in every 5,500 is at-risk for
developing the disease. Many more are touched by HD as a caregiver, family member, or friend.
