Yes, The Road Is Narrow; But Not Too Narrow

More concerns raised about emergency vehicles getting through on Lakeshore Road

The weather’s been nice, people have been flocking to the Barrie waterfront, and the talk has started again about how narrow Lakeshore Road has become since the realignment, “What were they thinking at city hall, how are emergency vehicles going to get through if the traffic is jammed? There’s no room.” No problem, says Mayor Jeff Lehman. There is room. In fact, he says, “The intent was our emergency vehicles wouldn’t actually use Lakeshore, unless they need to access the waterfront itself, the beach or otherwise. It is absolutely safe there, absolutely able to get down to the beach or the marina or the playground if needed. City departments do review these things before they’re done…absolutely (emergency services) can get through.”

More on the waterfront, the extension of Bryne Drive, college expansion and other city matters on the latest In Lehman’s Terms.
