Women Get Hands-On Fire Safety Training In Barrie

Fire Prevention Week Initiative

Fire Prevention Week begins this weekend. Fire Services across our region have many special events planned in hopes of raising awareness and preventing fires. In Barrie, firefighters and Home Depot are teaming up for a Do-It-Yourself course for women. Fire and Life Safety Officer Samantha Hoffman says it’s women they wind up talking to most when they visit homes for safety checks, many admitting they know little about smoke alarms and how to install them; Home Depot noting it’s women who make the most purchases of fire safety equipment. This course, Thursday October 8 at the main firehall on Dunlop Street in Barrie, will be hands-on. Participants will be drilling holes and wiring smoke and carbon monoxide alarms and learning how to shut off such things as electricity and water in an emergency situation. Space is limited. If you’re interested, call 705-728-3199 to sign up.
