CANCELLED – some activities moved indoors, early fireworks still a go
Due to the colder than anticipated weather forecasted for this evening, and out of concern for the safety of the public, our partner organizations, the staff and the performers and their crews, we have made the difficult decision to cancel the outdoor activities planned for New Year’s Eve. The City of Barrie is under an Extreme Cold Warning from Environment, with wind chill values predicted to be -30 to -40 degrees.
Activities for families have been moved indoors to the Centre for the Performing Arts downtown and will take place from 6:00 pm – 7:45 pm. All of this evening’s fireworks will take place at 8:00 pm, in Heritage Park. Residents and visitors are encouraged to watch the fireworks from the warmth of their cars, anywhere along the waterfront.
All of the outdoor concerts, as well as the fireworks at midnight, have been cancelled. Staff will be in the Rotunda from 8:00 -11 pm, to advise anyone who comes by of the programming changes. The Rotunda will also serve as a warming station if needed.
