Did somebody say PUPPIES?!?

This morning we had a visit from COPE Service Dogs, a local non-profit. They  raise and train future service dogs to work with individuals with mobile disabilities. The dogs also attend school in Innisfil at Nantry Shores where they work with students to give them a positive learning experience.

On June 30 they had a litter of 10 puppies, and have placed 7 of them in loving homes. Now they are looking for volunteers to raise the three remaining Labrador Retrievers  for about 2 years while they are learning to be a service dog.

Are YOU interested in becoming a Puppy Foster? Here’s what you need to know:

• All food, treats and vet bills are paid for
• The foster parents provide a loving home, train in basic obedience and socialize the pup- full training is provided and on-going
• Our pups go everywhere with the foster parent as they wear a cape that identifies them as a service dog
• If the foster parent cannot take the dog with them somewhere or if they are going on vacation, we also have Puppy Sitters – these are also volunteers who are trained and will take the pups for them

Other interesting facts about COPE Service Dogs:

• 40 people are positively impacted by each COPE dog in training
• 90 commands may be learned by COPE dogs in training
• 2 years is the length of the training program before being matched to people with disabilities
