Townhouse Complex Fire Causes $500K Damage

Building owner collecting donations on behalf of victims

No one was hurt when fire Tuesday morning tore through a nine-unit townhouse complex on Owen Street in Barrie. The flames erupted just before 5:30am. Once it was extinguished, crews  had to conduct an extensive overhaul of the roof, which consisted of a newer peaked roof over an older flat roof. The Office of the Fire Marshall has been called in to help determine a cause. About 20 people were given shelter on a city bus while police determined their long-term needs. The owner of the building has set up a donation box for clothing and toiletries at 394 Tiffin Street.
