Pair of drivers charged in Caledon

ONTARIO PROVINCIAL POLICE

On Saturday, August 11th at approximately 6:43 pm members from the Caledon Detachment responded to a traffic complaint of a possible impaired driver travelling on Airport Road near Patterson Side Road. Police located the passenger vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. Following an investigation at the roadside, the driver was subsequently arrested. A 35 year old Toronto man was charged with the following offences:

  • Driving With More Than 80 mgs. of Alcohol In Blood
  • Possession of a Schedule II Substance (Cannabis Marijuana – Under 30 grams)
  • Driving While Under Suspension

The accused is scheduled to appear in Orangeville court on August 27th

 

On Saturday, August 11th at approximately 5:09 pm members from the Caledon Detachment responded to a report of a single motor vehicle collision on Highway 50 just south of Highway 9. Police arrived on scene and spoke to a local citizen who informed police of the incident he drove upon. Following, an officer spoke to the driver of a damaged passenger vehicle. While speaking to the woman, the officer determined that her ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by the consumption of alcohol and arrested her accordingly. As a result a 46 year old Bolton woman was charged with the following offences

  • Driving While Ability Impaired- Motor Vehicle (Alcohol)
  • Fail or Refuse to Provide Sample

The accused is scheduled to appear in Orangeville court on August 30th

 

On Saturday, August 11th at approximately 11:15 pm an officer from the Caledon Detachment was on patrol along Highway 50 near Bolton Heights Road when he observed a motor vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed above the posted speed limit. The officer activated the radar unit and determined the speed of the vehicle to be 135 km/hr. in a posted 60 km/hr. zone. As a result, an 18 year old Caledon man has been charged with Race a Motor Vehicle – Excessive Speed. The driver received a 7-day licence suspension and his motor vehicle was seized for a period of 7 days.

BARRIE POLICE

On Wednesday, August 15th shortly after 2:00 am Police were called to a residential area on Sovereign’s Gate in Barrie after a caller reported a fail to remain collision. Officers arrived and spoke to the car owner who was inside the house when the incident occurred. Their vehicle was parked on the street when it was struck, sending it 20m up the street and onto the curb with significant damage to the driver’s side. The loud noise prompted witnesses to run outside to find the suspect vehicle with obvious damage parked down the street with two people inside. As the witness approached to speak to the driver, the vehicle drove off. The witness was able to keep sight on the vehicle as it drove around the corner and into a driveway on Spencer Drive. He stayed back and strategically awaited police arrival. Officers were able to track a groove in the pavement from the rim of the suspect vehicle which went from the scene of collision to the residence on Spencer Drive where the damaged vehicle was parked. Two people were located at the house and were confirmed to be the ones who were in the vehicle at the time of the collision.

Police learned the 31-year-old Barrie man who was driving the car had never been licensed, subsequently he has been charged with:

  • Driving While Disqualified
  • Fail to Stop at Scene of Accident
  • Two counts of Breach of Probation

The accused was held for a bail hearing in regards to the above charges as well as breaches of his previous statutory release conditions.

 

YORK REGIONAL POLICE

On Tuesday, August 14th at approximately 6:30 a.m. officers responded to a call at an address on Wexford Drive near Woodbine Avenue in the Town of Georgina regarding two men who appeared to be impaired, driving a golf cart. When officers arrived, the two suspects jumped off the golf cart and attempted to flee the scene but were quickly arrested. The 16-year-old man was charged with Impaired Driving by Drugs among other offences. Both he and the 18-year-old passenger were charged with Theft of a Motor
Vehicle.
