Supermoon Apprears

Closest to Earth since 1948

Last night as the moon slowly rose over horizon at dusk it seemed absolutely huge.  A big bright full moon lit up the eastern part of the sky and the reason it appeared so large when rising is because the moon is closer to the Earth than it has been for 69 years.  The last time it was this close was in January of 1948.

Astronomers say as far as cool celestial events, the Supermoon isn’t that big of a deal, but they do say that anything that gets people looking up into the night sky and being interested in what happens in space is pretty cool.

If the sky stays clear, your best view of the Supermoon will be around dusk and in the early part of the evening.
