Springwater Fire Smouldered For Weeks Before Igniting in Ravine

Hot, Humid Conditions Ignited Fire That Got Its Start in June

A fire that started in June was just extinguished this morning. Twenty-three Springwater firefighters responded to reports of a bush fire off Scarlett Line near Orr Lake around 11:30 last night, arriving to find the fire in a 40-foot ravine. Despite the rough terrain, they were able to get it under control within two hours. Officials believe the fire started as the result of an open air burn in June that continued to smolder underground for a few weeks. Yesterday’s wind and humidity provided for just the right conditions to ignite the fire.
