South Simcoe Theatre’s 50th Anniversary Celebration

TALENTED CAST BRINGS OLD TOWN HALL TO LIFE

Wow! That’s pretty well all that’s left to be said after taking in “50: Our Golden Celebration” presented by South Simcoe Theatre at the Old Town Hall in Cookstown,

Director Scott Hurst, and musical director Renee Cingolani, and the talented SST cast take you on a 50 year romp through some of the best musical productions the group has presented to local patrons over the past half century.

The old historic Town Hall auditorium comes to life, filled with the big, full vocals and harmonies of 21 seasoned cast members backed by a 3 piece orchestra that doesn’t miss a beat. So many of the selections are big production, show-stopper numbers featuring bright, colourful costumes that represent some of the various shows the show tunes were selected from. There are also moving solos of some of the biggest and most memorable anthems performed over the years. Singing, dancing all the way through, there’s even a tap dance segment! The production is such, it’s easy to forget you’re not in Toronto or New York while taking in the Cookstown show.

During the production, there is a video piece highlighting the theatre group’s beginnings, including a touching piece in tribute to the groups original founder Joan Megraw that includes some memorable moments and also the human side of how SST was first founded 50 years ago in the regional area, through to the many award winning productions the group has presented over the last five decades.
