Risk Of Heat Illnesses High Today

Symptoms to watch for; actions to take

Health concerns are front and centre with the high heat and humidity expected today. The humidex will be nudging 40C and there won’t be much cloud cover to shield you from the sun raising risk for heat-related illnesses – particularly in young children and the elderly. Here are the things to watch for:

  •  dizziness or fainting, nausea or vomiting
  • headache
  • rapid breathing and heartbeat
  • extreme thirst

If you experience any of those symptoms best you get some place cool (libraries and malls are good for that) and drink lots of water. In fact, it’s a good idea for everyone to drink lots of water before feeling thirsty, just to keep hydrated. Leave your pets at home, don’t leave kids in the car.
