If you get a call from Revenue Canada saying that you owe back-taxes and demanding money from you over the phone, just hang up! This latest telephone fraud scam has been causing headaches for officials and of course anyone who has given their credit card number out over the phone.
Revenue Canada will never demand a payment by credit card over the phone, or send you a text or e-mail containing a “link” asking for personal or financial information for you to click on. The only exception to this is if you have personally asked Revenue Canada yourself to send you info through e-mail.
If you have received a threatening call, e-mail or text like this, contact the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre online or call 1-888-495-8501 to report any information you have about the call.
