Police Confirm Remains of Mandy Thompson Discovered in Oro Medonte Last Week

The OPP today confirmed the remains found in Oro Medonte last week were that of Mandy Thompson. The 72-year-old woman was reported missing to Barrie Police in early February of 2017, leading to a massive weeks-long search. A group of hunters discovered her remains Tuesday morning, in a wooded area near Line 1 and Gore Road in Oro. The family has requested privacy at this time, although have provided a formal statement in regards to the announcement issued by police.

Our family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the Barrie Police Service, Ontario Provincial Police, South Simcoe Police Service, Georgian Bay Volunteer Search and Rescue, family, friends, and the citizens of Barrie and Oro-Medonte for all of their continued efforts in the search for Mandy.

Mandy was a wonderful lady and much loved Wife, Mom, Stepmom, and Grandma.  We appreciate everyone’s assistance and support during this past difficult year and are very thankful that Mandy has been found and can now rest in peace”.
