Province Helping Families Stay In Their Homes

Simcoe County getting millions in funding

Simcoe County is to receive more than $14M in new funding from the Community Homelessness Prevention Initiative to help families and individuals stay in their homes or get the housing they need. Barrie MPP Ann Hoggarth made the announcement this morning in Barrie with Housing Minister Chris Ballard. This money represents an over $1.1M increase in funding from years previous. The program offers a wide range of services and homelessness prevention programs that meet local needs. These include:

• Emergency financial assistance to prevent eviction
• Long-term and transitional housing
• Integrated supportive housing to help people with specific needs access suitable housing

Last year, this initiative helped almost 40,000 Ontario families and individuals experiencing homelessness obtain housing, and helped over 115,000 families and individuals at-risk of homelessness remain in their homes.

“I am thrilled that Simcoe County is receiving this $14.5 million to help support individuals and families experiencing, or at risk of homelessness. It is crucial that our community continue to develop these services as we keep pace with our rapid growth. I am proud that our government continues to make investments like these toward the bold goal of ending chronic homelessness and poverty” said Hoggarth.
