Province Has a ‘HOT’ New Idea To Curb Congestion

High-Occupancy Toll Lane Pilot Project Introduced In GTA

They’re trying something new on the roads down in Toronto, and it might spread from there. The province this morning introduced something called a High-Occupancy Toll, or HOT lane pilot project. It will begin next summer on a section of the QEW between Oakville and Burlington, and see a portion of existing HOV lanes converted into these HOT lanes, meaning cars with two or more occupants can use them for free, while single drivers would have to buy a permit. The Province says this pilot project will be used to determine if and how to move forward with similar lanes on other 400 series highways, in an effort to slim down traffic congestion.
