Postal Disruption Looms Large

Delivery could be halted by next week

Hold on to those birthday cards and bills, postcards…love letters. There could be a strike or lockout at Canada Post come Sunday. Talks, which have been going on since December, have not been going well. The last job action, in 2011, went on for two/three weeks before the government stepped in with back-to-work legislation. The Liberals have already indicated they would not be doing that this time out. A number of Canadian companies have warned customers of the potential disruption to mail service, urging them to go online to pay bills, if statements are delayed. There is an agreement in place to ensure the delivery of federal income assistance and pension cheques.  Email updates on the situation can be arranged at Canadapost.ca/update.
