Paying The Rent Getting Tougher In Barrie
Average rent for one-bedroom unit up more than 3%
Barrie has jumped from 15th to 11th place on a list of most expensive one-bedroom rentals in Canada. A Padmapper survey of rents across the country finds an increase of 3.4 per cent in the last year to an average $910. Barrie has the fifth highest rents for two-bedroom units at $1300 a month – up 0.8 per cent in the last year. Mayor Jeff Lehman, in a couple of ‘tweets’ on this last night said the good news in this is it is a symptom of a strong local economy; the downside is it means there’s less to choose from and hits people with lower incomes the hardest.
