Orillia Wants To Get A Handle On Youth Homelessness

Orillia is sending a task force to the streets to assess youth homelessness in the city. “Youth represent one of the most vulnerable groups in our community. The Orillia Youth Opportunities Committee (OYOC) is considering the value of providing young men and women with a safe place to stay when they have no other stable residence available to them. However, the first step in responding to the challenges of youth homelessness is to understand the scope of the problem,” said task force lead and OYOC member, Catherine Holtz. The task force will spend December checking in with organizations involved with homeless youth and taking surveys. Those surveys will be anonymous in hopes of getting an accurate picture of the extent of the homelessness. Surveys are available at the Orillia Youth Centre. Community organizations wishing to take part should get a hold of Councillor Jeff Clark at jn10clark@gmail.com
