Operation Northern Spotlight’s Latest Phase Ends With Dozens of Arrests

Over a hundred charges laid in Human Trafficking Investigation

The OPP announced this morning continued success with their human trafficking unit, Operation Northern Spotlight. Phase Four of this initiative involved agencies from across Canada and the US, including the Barrie Police Service, and provincial police said this morning their efforts resulted in 47 arrests and 135 charges laid, including a child pornography related charge. Police say they were also able to ensure the safety of 20 people working in the sex trade industry as minors or against their will; some were as young as 14.
