Ontario To Finance Research Combating Sexual Violence Against Indigenous Women

Numbers Show Indigenous Women Three Times More Likely To Experience Violence

The province is putting money towards ending sexual violence against Indigenous women. The Ontario Government outlined this morning three research projects they’re hoping will bring about a more compassionate, sensitive, and culturally appropriate response from law enforcement. The province say they’re putting $250,000 towards researching on-reserve reporting and investigating practices, impact on indigenous women police involvement has, and what kinds of experiences Indigenous women have when reporting sexual violence. Research indicates indigenous women in Canada are three times more likely to experience violence than non-indigenous women.
