On The Job Injury Leads To Hefty Fine For Out-Of-Province Employer

Calgary Firm Fined After Barrie Worker Hurt

A Calgary-based business has been fined a hundred grand after a young Barrie man was hurt on the job. Tervita Corp. was hired to help reclaim some landfill space in the city, and in March of last year, a young worker in its employ was hurt. The Ministry of Labour says the young man was using a city-supplied machine to screen and separate material, when he was pulled into an exposed pinch point on the machine. He was able to get free, but required medical attention. The company pleaded guilty in Barrie court on Tuesday, and was fined $100,000.
