The Second phase of the Mapleview Drive East widening is expected to begin this week. The stretch from Country Lane to Madelaine Drive to be widened to four lanes in each direction.
15-20,000 vehicles travel along Mapleview East each day
Stu Patterson, Barrie’s Manager of Construction, says disruption to traffic flow should be minimal with few all-out closures anticipated. You’ll recall weeks-long closures during the Phase One work between Huronia Road and Country Lane. Patterson says they do not expect to run into the same groundwater issues they encountered there.
The plan for this stretch pretty much the same as for Phase One: storm and sanitary sewers, additional lanes, a sidewalk on the south side and multi-use trail on the north side.
This work expected to take until the end of November.
That’s great but they still haven’t finished the first phase. Love a road with no defined lines. Just waiting for an accident to happen. And it seems everyone now feels it’s an 80 zone. @cityofbarrie #finishwhatyoustarted

A side note, related to Phase One, Patterson says the city is working with the contractor to get the final layer of asphalt down between Huronia Road and Country Lane. He says that should be done this summer. Patterson also said they’re working with the contractor to get the final layer of asphalt down on the first phase of this project between Huronia Road and Country Lane.
