Need To Top Up The Blood Bank

Canadian Blood Services preparing for summer needs

Canadian Blood Services says it needs 200,000 donations over the next ten weeks to prepare for demand over the summer; 2500 units are needed in the Barrie-area – type-O in particular.

With people away or busy with other activities, there tends to be fewer blood donations during the summer. And unlike previous years, recent factors, including new donation rules to protect the blood supply from the Zika virus, along with seasonal health conditions like the flu and missed appointments have also put added pressure on Canada’s blood supply.

You can donate at the clinic at 231 Bayview Drive on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 8am until noon, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4pm until 8pm. Visit blood.ca to make an appointment.
