UPDATE: Lakeshore Drive In Barrie Reopened This Afternoon

Final touches put to realignment

Lakeshore Drive in Barrie – the realigned Lakeshore Drive – reopened at 5 o’clock this afternoon. Barrie Mayor Jeff Lehman and the city’s first Mayor Willard Kinzie took a ceremonial first drive on it at 2 o’clock.

SEPTEMBER 28 – It’s been an adventure driving along Lakeshore Drive in Barrie for months now due to realignment construction. This week, you can’t drive on it at all. Final touches being put to the realignment mean the old section is closed at as of 7 o’clock this morning (Monday), and it will stay closed, from north of the Tiffin Boat launch entrance to the South Centennial parking lot – those lots will remain open.  Mayor Jeff Lehman excited about the end result of all of this
Once the road work has been completed, work will begin on several improvements to the waterfront itself – a boardwalk, kiosks to rent power boards and other equipment to use on the water, a new splash pad and more. The new Lakeshore Drive will open at 5pm next Monday (October 5).
