Knights in Shining Armour Save the Day for Barrie’s Less Fortunate!

St. Joan of Arc Catholic High School

The Knights strike again, reaching out to those in need as the chilly winds of fall are at their peak! This past Thanksgiving, students of St. Joan of Arc Catholic High School in Barrie reflected on what they were thankful for, by paying it forward to not-for-profit organizations, including the David Busby Street Center and the Women and Children’s Shelter.

Over the course of two weeks, “Blessing bags” comprised of hats, mittens, and men’s and women’s toiletries were filled to the brim thanks to the immense participation, and the generous hearts of all those students passing through the hallways of St. Joan of Arc.
As Barrie is in the midst of autumn with winter fast approaching, the demand for warm clothing and everyday necessities are on the rise. Struggling families and individuals seek shelter over the cold months, and watch their pockets empty trying to provide during the holiday season.

Local organizations are on the scene and lending helping hands every which way but have been challenged with an increasing urgency for more donations. The Knights never cease to ‘raise their swords’ and do their part to support important causes that continue to challenge the good people of our community. Hundreds of items from the recent collection were separated into two categories to account for basic needs of men and women, and the deliveries were made with overflowing packages to the grateful charities.

Organizations reached out to thank students for their kindness and told of the big smiles on the faces of those who were impacted. “We are truly blessed to have such a caring bunch of individuals to help us meet the needs of the community,” remarked Ms McKinney, a teacher at St. Joan of Arc, “no doubt that we will continue to see more good deeds from the JOA Knights!”
