Jobless Rates Up On All Levels

Despite National Job Gains

The Canadian economy added a bunch of jobs, but the unemployment rate still went up. Last month saw the creation of 12,000 new jobs, but the national jobless rate edged up to 7.1 per cent as more people were looking for work. Meanwhile, job losses in Ontario, to the tune of 33,800, pushing the unemployment rate up a titch to 6.9 per cent. Locally, Barrie’s jobless rate sits at an unadjusted 7 per cent. One full percentage point higher than it was this time last year.
