Housing Starts In Barrie-Area Rose Last Month

Barrie home builders were a bit busier last month. Canada Mortgage and Housing says there were 1667 housing starts in the Barrie-area in August, up from 1414 in July. “An increase in the trend for apartment starts pulled the trend for total housing starts up again in August after a dip in the previous month. Builders have now started apartment projects in four consecutive months, something that has not happened in Barrie since 1989. Limited land availability for new residential construction is encouraging a shift to higher-density housing in the Barrie CMA,” said Abdellah Massaoudi, CMHC’s Market Analyst for Barrie.
