Every March 14th is Pi day…not the edible kind…the math kind. This Pi day is a little bit more special than most because today’s date (3/14/16) is actually the first 6 digits of pi…rounded up (3.14159). To celebrate, here are some fun facts about Pi that you will feel smarter for knowing:

Albert Einstein was born on Pi Day.

Einstein

Relatively mind-blowing, I know.

Pi has 6.4 billion known digits.

It would take 133 years without stopping to recite the entire length of Pi.

Pi has its own literary form called Pilish.

pi

Pilish is a way or writing in which the number of letters in each successive word must match the digits of pi. For example: (3.141596) “Yes, I have a great adoration of Rock95!” (I think I cheated a bit with the numbers…but you get the idea)

If you look at Pi in a mirror…it looks like pie…mmm pie

Spock Used Pi to Trick an Evil Computer

In the Star Trek Episode “Wolfe in the Fold”, Spock tricks the evil computer by telling it to “compute to last digit the value of pi”.

Happy Pi Day!
