Get To Know Your Local Candidate: York-Simcoe

Alexandra Zalucky, Loralea Carruthers, Dave Szollosy, Caroline Mulroney

The June 7th Provincial Election will be here sooner than you think, so it’s time to get to know the candidates. In mid April, we extended an invitation to the candidates from all four major parties in Ontario to join us in-studio. Each candidate was given two minutes to speak their peace, to let you know why you should vote for them or, in some cases, why you shouldn’t vote for the other guy.

Every effort was made to invite candidates from ridings Barrie-Innisfil, Barrie-Springwater-Oro-Medonte, Simcoe North, Simcoe Grey, and York-Simcoe. Many agreed wholeheartedly to participate, and joined our own Brett Glover in-studio, over the span of several weeks. Some candidates came with prepared statements, while some requested Brett ask them starter questions. Those that needed it were edited for time only, preserving the original message to the best of our ability. Those candidates who could not join us in-studio, either due to scheduling or geography, were provided direction on how they could record their own statements through a smartphone.

Some candidates chose not to participate or neglected to respond to our invitation at all. Their names and party affiliation are included in our series, so that you may independently research and read up on the candidate, party, and their platform.

The candidates’ offerings are listed below, first by riding, then alphabetically by party: Green, Liberal, New Democratic, and Progressive Conservative.

Alexandra Zalucky – Green Party

Loralea Carruthers – Liberal Party

Dave Szollosy – New Democratic Party

Caroline Mulroney – Progressive Conservative Party
