Georgian Updates City Hall on Hunt For Downtown Campus

Update Comes Ahead of City's Final Financial Contribution

City Hall got an update on  the Georgian College search for a downtown campus location. College staff were at Monday night’s council meeting to provide information on the college’s progress, as Georgian President Dr. MaryLynn West-Moynes says they’re well on their way to having a fully functional visual arts campus downtown.

The presentation was planned before last week’s meeting, where council voted to hold the city’s final 1.5 million dollar payment to Georgian College. Council committed $5 million to the college with the understanding that Georgian would strive towards a downtown campus, while the money held represents the final payment. Council will vote on whether to provide that money at next week’s meeting, while the college says it has received positive response to it’s Request for Proposals in order to find a 20,000 square foot facility to house the school’s visual design students.
