Georgian Bay Boat Fire Under Investigation

Boater Had To Abandon Ship

Investigators are looking for what started a fire that damaged a boat on the waters of Georgian Bay. OPP say a 60-year-old Penetanguishene man was transporting his boat to be stored for the winter, but it caught fire. He was forced to jump in the drink, but was wearing a floater suit at the time. Two workers at a nearby home went out in small boats to rescue the man, while the boat drifted towards a McArthur Drive residence, where it was extinguished by firefighters. The boat owner was treated in hospital for minor injuries and released.
