Fire Prevention Week Gets Underway

Fire Prevention Week begins this weekend, kicking off today kicks off today for Barrie firefighters with a demonstration at Home Depot in the south end. Fire and Life Safety Officer  Samantha Hoffman says they’ll be comparing regular renovation items with fire resistant items in a controlled burn. She say fire-rated insulation, drywall and flooring may cost a little more, but the fire safety it provides is price-less. There are also events for the kids – building and painting fire trucks, Sparky the Fire Dog will be there. It happens from 10am until 2pm. Sunday, firefighters are holding an Open House at the main fire station on Dunlop Street. For more on these events, listen below to to our interview with Fire and Life Safety officer Hoffman.

 The Orillia Fire Service has also partnered with Home depot today to kick off Fire Prevention Week. Live demonstrations between 10am and 2pm will include a Christmas tree fire showing the importance of holiday decoration maintenance and a vehicle extrication by the “jaws of life.”

Gravenhurst Fire Station #1 at 190 Harvie St. will host a public ‘Open House’ from 10am – 3pm today to officially launch Fire Prevention Week.
