Federal NDP Shopping For A New Leader

52% of delegates voted for leadership review

Federal NDP leader Thomas Muclair announced his resignation yesterday after a majority of delegates at the party’s convention voted in favour of a leadership review. It is the first example in history of a federal party leader failing to secure the minimum level of support from members of his party required to win a confidence vote. There is no heir apparent to Mulcair; no one with a burning desire to take the reins. Mulcair says he will stay on until a new leader is chosen.
