Ex-Employee, Contractor Accused Of Bilking City of Barrie Of Millions

Employee Accused Of Approving Doctored Invoices

A former City of Barrie employee and a contractor are looking at charges after police say the pair defrauded the city out of millions. Police say from late 2011 to Spring of this year, the employee was in a position to assign work to the contractor, who allegedly submitted inflated, sometimes duplicate invoices to the employee. The invoices were approved and the employee was said to have gotten a cut of the profits. Over the course of four years, police say the pair raked in around two mil through this scheme, but now the 38-year-old employee and 30-year-old contractor will answer to charges in court in December.
