Doctors Sound Alarm Over New fee Structure
Docs take to social media to get message across
A warning from Ontario doctors with a new fee schedule taking effect October 1. It includes a 1.3 per cent cut in fees, which doctors say could decimate some medical services in the province may cause some doctors to shut down their practices. In addition, the Ontario Association of Nuclear Medicine says the cuts could impact wait times for critical diagnostic procedures and treatments. Premier Kathleen Wynne said that Ontario doctors are some of the best paid doctors in the world and said she was “disappointed” that the province and its physicians were unable to reach a deal. The average Ontario doctor bills OHIP $360,000 per year. Doctors argue they have high overhead costs, including staff salaries and medical equipment. Dozens of doctors have started tweeting about their workload using #oncall4ON
