Decline In Sales, Retail Climate Led To Goodwill Closures

Discussions continue to address financial realities

As donations pile up outside of Goodwill locations, its board of directors is pointing to significant business challenges and a decline in sales as reasons why several stores in Ontario – including those in Barrie and Orillia – have been shutdown. “Goodwill is a unique social enterprise, where majority of funding and services are self-driven through consumer and donated goods. In its current state, Goodwill’s operations model was not sustainable. This was the imperative that led to our decision.” Discussions continue with the union to help address the financial realities facing the organization.
