Catholic School At Honey Harbour To Close

Too few students, no growth expected

It’s the end of an era in Honey Harbour. Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board has accepted a staff recommendation to close Our Lady of Mercy Catholic School. The move comes as a result of a Pupil Accommodation Review process, which the Board initiated last fall.  “These reviews are difficult for many reasons. We know that many of our decisions affect people’s lives, as does this one,” said Brian Beal, Director of Education. “What is even more complicated in an accommodation review is that there is a lot of history involved for the students, families and communities.”
There are just 14 students enrolled at the school with little, if any, growth expected. Those students will be moved to St. Antoine Daniel Catholic School. Our Lady of Mercy opened in 1946.
