Canadians Need To Cut The Crap…In Addition To The Fat

Need to cook more from scratch

It may not be enough to just cut the fat. The Heart and Stroke Foundation says we also need to cut the crap and get back to nutritional basics like cooking from scratch instead of chowing down on processed foods. We also need to eat more fruits and vegetables – the Foundation says 60 per cent of Canadians don’t consume enough of them. Heart disease and stroke are the leading cause of death in Canada, responsible for 27 per cent of all deaths. Examples of ultraprocessed foods include soft drinks, packaged fruit juices, cookies, ice cream, salty snacks, ready meals and bottled sauces.
