Billy Talent has just announced they’ll be hosting a benefit concert next month to support the victims of the Danforth shooting. It’ll be Aug. 11 at the Danforth Music Hall, which will be during the Taste of the Danforth event. All proceeds will be going to the #TorontoStrong fund.
Billy Talent frontman Ben Kowalewicz said, “We have so many of our friends and family and people that we love who live up in that neighbourhood and our studio is right up blocks from there. We were just completely devastated and then we spoke the next day and we were like, ‘We have to do something.’”
They’re trying to gather other musicians to perform and they’ve already got City and Colour and PUP.
He says he also hopes the concert will encourage people to go back and enjoy the Danforth.
Toronto’s Greektown neighbourhood has a vibrant arts community. The late Gord Downie lived in the area and Billy Talent has their studio there.
Tickets go on sale Aug. 1 at 10 a.m. for $50 per ticket and you can purchase them at http://www.torontotogether.com/
