Barrie Considering Old Shipping Containers For Building Construction

Fireproof, cheap, readily available

They may not look like the coziest things in the world right now, but the city is looking at using shipping containers in construction. Councillor Rose Romita brought the idea to city hall on Monday night, after speaking with a local builder interested in using the containers in his work. Romita claims they’re readily available, fire proof, and cheaper than other prefabs. An as yet to be scheduled public meeting would likely generate suggestions for residential, commercial, or industrial uses from the public. The results of which would be put into a staff report in the months to come.
