Automatic Plate Recognition Vehicle Catches Another One

Driver Charged Thanks to Automated System

One of the OPP’s newest toys has paid off again. A squad car outfitted with an Automatic Licence Plate Recognition system, a camera attached to a computer that scans passing plates for violations, pinged around 8:00 last evening, alerting the officer to a passing pickup. Police say a 47-year-old Oro Medonte man’s licence had been suspended, adding he didn’t have insurance either. He’s facing a few charges and will be in court for late January.
