Over the long holiday weekend, Prime Minister Stephen Harper dissolved Canada’s parliament and triggered what will be the longest election in modern Canadian history.

Popular theories contended Stephen Harper’s Conservative Party wanted to call the longer election because their party has close to double the amount in their treasuries as the other parties, and by rights, should be able to outspend their opponents during the long campaign.

While most Canadians are just trying to enjoy some warmer weather during the summer months, we now have election headlines in the news on a daily basis. Most likely, Canadians will start giving the whole thing more thought closer to the actual time of the election which isn’t until October 19th, the week AFTER you’ve enjoyed your Thanksgiving dinner! By then, maybe we’ll tune in that week to find out what the leaders have to say. Too bad they just couldn’t use all the money they will spend in the coming 70 days or so, to help make lives better for Canadians, but when you look closely at what the spirit of politics is really all about, it rarely seems like it’s for the good of the country. Just sayin’.
